Greetings Professor Rodwell, I hope this letter finds you in good health. My name is Jim Ferdous, and this letter is an introduction to my goals in the sphere of engineering.
At the moment, I am enrolled in The City College of New York under an undeclared major. However, as my enrollment in writing for engineers alludes, I intend on majoring in engineering but more specifically computer science. Engineering has always interested me since a child because of how versatile the field is, but also because of the change it brings to society. I have always wanted to bring change to our society, and seeing engineering feats such as electric cars, or brain implants fascinates me. Ultimately, I want to be a part of any technological advancements the world can benefit from.
My current short-term goals are to achieve a top-class performance in this writing for engineers course and get admitted into the Grove School of Engineering at the City College of New York. I intend to achieve these goals by using the writing for engineering course combined with the knowledge you will provide to become a master of computer science. I find that every class is an opportunity to further my understanding and mastery of computer science, so I look forward to dedicating my time and effort to passing this course. In addition, I hope to be admitted into the Grove School of engineering by next semester by completing entry-level courses such as physics and calculus II. I am currently taking every opportunity to learn how engineering principles are applied in the practical world by watching videos about computer science online, reading the news, and attending online boot camps.
Turning to the future, my goals regarding engineering in the long-term goals are never-ending. To begin with, I hope to find an internship later in my academic journey that will allow me to put my academics to use and gain the necessary experience I need to make a genuine impact in the world. Similarly, I hope to do research and innovation projects targeting solutions for the betterment of living, for instance, cyber security, secure banking, and entertainment. Furthermore, I see myself using my experience and knowledge to guide the younger generations into the exciting field of computer science by making content about the field when I retire through TikTok or YouTube videos. I can only hope that I am a successful engineer who can use his knowledge to motivate the youth and promote innovation through responsible means.
As an onlooker into the field of computer science, the more I look into the future, the more I realize how important engineering truly is. As a society, we have come so far in making our lives more efficient. Through the inventions of laptops or cellphones, advanced technologies continue to evolve further proving that the field of engineering is bottomless. Engineers have found ways to make it easier to have financial transactions such as tap to pay, proving that engineers will always resolve various issues people did not even know existed. Currently, with the birth of artificial intelligence, there is no telling what the possibility of engineering is for society. As engineering progresses, I hope that I can be a contributing factor to this never-ending field of study.
Sincerely,
Jim Ferdous
