Subject: Self-Reflection of Technical Description

When writing the Technical Description, questions of the message, audience, and structuring were all factors that influenced the writing. As the description was based on an Aroma Digital Rice Cooker, I knew that I wanted to have a writing style that would critically analyze each component of the rice cooker. The writing style appealed to a smaller audience such as people who needed a compressive breakdown of the components within the rice cooker and used language and rhetorical concepts to engage the audience.

My technical description broke down every part of the Aroma Digital Rice cooker, describing each interior and exterior part of the product, and described both the individual and collective functionalities that allowed the product to function. Within the essay, a strength I had was writing about the components of the rice cooker in a detailed manner. When analyzing the production of the rice cooker, I focused on the small details of the product. In the interior parts section, I explained the importance of the steam vent and present programs. Although these are small hidden components of the rice cooker, I explained how these components made the rice cooker more efficient which improves user experience.

In terms of the quality, I think the analysis emphasizes the important aspects regarding the rice cooker. The language in this case is clear and concise which makes it easy for readers to comprehend the components of the rice cooker. Similarly, the description is written in a formal manner which allows for readers to understand that the analysis is critical. The technical descriptions strongest aspect is the logical way the information is presented.  An element that needs improvement is the level of detail in some areas. I feel as if the analysis is not as detailed when explaining the components, which would make it more useful. One way to change this can be to pick an item that has all its component’s measurements.

While writing the technical description a weakness I had was the introduction. It failed to be written without using quotes and lacked capturing the reader’s attention. The introduction may have been strengthened by using less quotes while still being informative. In the future, I will strive to maintain the same level of formality and diversity but also try to a develop more in-depth analysis which will provide stronger supporting information to make the technical description more informative.
