Background Information: Among the many types of kitchen utensils found in a drawer, the can opener is one that has a special function that allows a person to open all sizes and materials of cans. The can opener’s mechanical design along with the precision engineering allow users easy and reliable access to contents in cans.
Thesis Statement: Although the can opener is a frequently discarded kitchen tool, it is a scientific breakthrough that uses engineering to be a useful tool.
- Point 1: Its functionality is supported by the fact that it opens cans of various sizes and materials with efficiency and safety, showing detailed design stillness.
- Point 2: Can openers be strong items proven by the quality of manufacture and construction materials that go into making it a long-lasting tool.
- Point 3: Can openers contribute to convenience and handiness for people of different skill levels in a kitchen.

Topic/Topic sentence: The can opener is a durable device in the kitchen and as a result, dependable.
Support 1: Can openers are constructed from tough materials including plastic, stainless steel, and rubber.
Details: These materials are resistant to the cyclic stresses imposed by opening cans thus enhancing the lifetime of the tool.
Support 2: The features of a can opener make it more durable.
Details: Elements such as the pivot point and handle connections are strengthened so it can be used frequently.
Example: Some models can have replaceable parts, meaning that consumers are able to lengthen the life cycle of their can opener by replacing worn out components.

Topic/Topic sentence: From the design perspective, can openers are made for any age group.
Support 1: The tool has an ergonomic design, can openers are designed in a way that promote comfortability and don’t require much effort.
Details: Handles are often padded or having different contours at the controlled end piece which when operated, provides a comfortable grip.
Example: Most manual can openers have large and easy-to rotate knobs, this allows people with low hand strength or movement to use them.
Support 2: The tool is good at its job as it allows users to open cans without issues.
Details: Common knowledge and new innovations allow for the tool to be easily used
Example: Magnetic lid holders eliminate the accident of falling detached lids into cans and hence lowering risks in spills, breakages etc. during their usage.

Support 1: Although can openers do not constitute as major pollutants, can openers use materials which may create recycling issues.
Details: These can opener materials that are applied mainly consist of plastics and metals, which eventually ant landfills toward the end-of life. – Example: Worn-out and broken can openers get rid of contributes further to the collection of electronic waste plastic junk pollution.
Support 2: Though the negative aspects of environmental impact may sound, can openers serve their purpose and last a lifetime.
Details: Durable products retain their viability for longer periods; resulting in less replacements, thus minimizing waste generation. Example: Can openers serve as a viable option to single-use alternatives and save the economy as they are not frequently replaced
Conclusion
Restate Thesis: A can opener is the embodiment of scientific ingenuity, engineering excellence and functionality that serves its purpose through a user-centered design.
Conclusion sentence: Can openers have unwavering consistency in performance and through careful craftsmanship, it is an item that is sustainable.

I thought that the thesis you wrote was a strong one and very captivating, however I wish you’d venture more and pick obscure points about a weightlifting belt people don’t often recognize. The explanations you provided were very through and concise which will make the product review essay very informative and I appreciate how you provided an in-depth explanation as to how the belt can be properly utilized. However, as the topic of this essay is to choose one specific item, I feel a if you should solely talk about the specific belt you have in the house. It will provide the readers with an understanding if the specific belt you have is a good overall product
RE: Nicholas Deng’s Product Review Essay
Although I find the points you make to be strong, I think a paaragrph arguing why the Wok is the best kitchen utensil would be intresting (that is if you feel that way). It would bring a fresh perspective into the review and would ultimately. strengthen the overall thesis of why a Wok is durable, can hold alot of ingredents, and why you feel that it is a tool that is easy to use. I find the paragraoh where you talk about the origins of a wok to be very crucial into understanding why you chose to review the wok. However, I think that the part where you mention the wok’s holding capcity is weak. To strengthen the review I think mentioning how ithe specific wok you own in a commercial setting would really take that point to the next level. In criteria three the claim is that the wok is easy to use, so i dont think you should highlight how it inly has one handle making it harder to lift. Other than that, I enjoy the descriptiveness and conciseness of your writing

Lab report theme: Health trends in pregnant women
- Risk Factors for Illness Severity Among Pregnant Women With Confirmed Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection
The lab report by Romeo R Galang uses data from medical records, vital records, and laboratory records to understand the severity of respiratory issues pregnant women who have covid 19 undergo. The study used the medical records of seven thousand women in the United States along with the National Institutes of Health and World Health Organization’s criteria to find women who are 25 years or older during pregnancy have a higher risk to catch COVID-19. The importance of this study was to gather data and spread awareness about vaccinations but also provide necessary resources to pregnant women who have COVID-19.
- Effects of a Comic Booklet Intervention Aimed at Preventing Second-Hand Smoke Exposure for Pregnant Women in Indonesia: A Randomised Controlled Trial.
This study was done by Kimiko Inaoka, and fellow co-authors. Researchers examined the effectiveness of decreasing secondhand smoke exposure among pregnant women all while promoting suitable smoking behaviors among their male partners. The study had 286 couples where the primary outcome was changed smoking attitude in the men that were a part of the group study. The results were that men who were in the group that were informed about smoking, displayed good smoking attitudes compared to the other group, with women in the experimental group were able to identify their partners’ behaviors. The purpose of this experiment was to pinpoint if maternal exposure to second-hand smoke resulted in preterm birth, low birth weight, congenital malformation, and the probability of miscarriage and stillbirth.
- Prospective Attitudes towards Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Vaccination: Validation of a Survey Instrument among Young Females in Jordan Pending Vaccine Authorization.
This research survey done by Tleen Kherfan and Malik Sallam was to see what factors contribute to the acceptance of the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine among young females who are 18 to 45 in Jordan. The survey asked 315 participants, to find that most women (70.2%) were ready to be vaccinated against RSV if the drug was safe, effective, and provided freely. The remaining women were hesitant because they did noy know about the vaccine. The study was created so doctors knew where to put their attention when battling the RSV infection and promote vaccination among pregnant females in Jordan.

- The purpose of the analysis is to assess the efficacy of research methods and presentation through a discussion of three lab reports’ deals with pregnant women.
Thesis Statement:
- Using the three lab reports, it is evident that each one has strong and weak sides which are revealed through the effectiveness of the research methodologies and the structure of the report. The reports allow one to understand the effectiveness and the opposition to health interventions given to the women who are pregnant to enhance maternal and child health outcomes around the world.

- Summary of the three lab reports focusing on pregnant women in diverse settings: Mongolia, Indonesia, and Jordan.
- Lab Report 1: Studies the rate of influenza and RSV infection in pregnant women and the youngest children (under 6 months) in Mongolia to improve preventive action programs.

- All three-lab reports had detailed and concise titles that give the readers a clear understanding of the trial being tested.
- Lab report 1 has a very short abstract which is a very generic overview of the experiment conducted.
- Lab report 2 and 3 have strong structured abstracts however report 2 has in-depth information that the reader will not understand until the report is read.
- Lab report 3 states all of its findings within the abstract, making the need to read the report useless.

- Report 2 has a lot of unclear information that is further explained in footnotes. Report 1&3 use minimal footnotes and explain the findings clearly.

- All three lab reports used detailed sample sizes, experiment locations, study conduct, and provided data along with the appropriate analysis.
- Lab report 1 investigated the healthcare measures among pregnant women by making phone calls twice a week, to find that 1,260 pregnant women were affected by RSV.
- This form of data recruitment may be inaccurate.
- Lab report 2 had had 286 couples in a controlled study and ran multiple trials and had different groups to test if the results were accurate.

- Report 1 puts the conclusion before the introduction, and it is just tacked on. There is no final analysis of the study.
- Report 2 has an in-depth conclusion that summarizes the findings of the experiment.
- Social aspects were addressed in the conclusions of reports 2 and 3 and the authors proposed future plans.
- Report 3 has a conclusion that goes over a specific method used in the survey (The ABCDEF scale)
- All three reports had a lengthy list of references
Conclusion
- All 3 reports presented information in a detailed manner.
- Report 1 was the most in-depth and provided the most research and data to back the claims.
- Report 2 was the most confusing for readers inexperienced on the topic.
- Report 3 provided easy to follow results.

The LRA outline was very through and detailed. It followed the outline the professor uploaded and did a good job at analyzing the report from a non bias perspective.One improvement you can make is providing direct examples. However, the outline is through and points out a lot of strong points about the reports but also has emphasis on the weaker parts of the reports.

I enjoyed how you mentioned what the reports talk about. However, I found that sometimes the analysis you provided about the reports were generic and not very insightful. However, I did find mentioning what tools the reports used to conduct the experiments to be helpful. I found it interesting that lab report 2 is an experiment as well as a survey and found that the analysis you had of lab 2 to be the strongest out of the three reports you analyzed.
Technical Innovation
Generative AI
A technical innovation I enjoyed was generative artificial intelligence in respect to engineering and construction. I found it interesting that generative AI can be used to advance construction projects are conceptualized, solved, and completed. Also, generative AI algorithms are able to independently generate multiple alternative designs solely as a result of the specified criteria it is provided with is an utterly revolutionary foundation. I enjoyed the concept that designers and architects can feed design parameters and constraints into generative AI systems, which in return cover wide design spaces within a shorter timeframe when compared with traditional methods of planning. With a revolutionary tool such as generative ai, it would further society and make it an appealing technological innovation.

Quantum computing is very innovative and helpful as it can lead to the discoveries and further technologies. It abilities to do complex calulations more effiectly than humans allow for more technological advancements. It’s current uses in the tech world further confirm its benifits and can change the way society currently uses technologies to advance the ways of living.
RE: The Inevitable EV
Electric vehicles reduce emissions, receive benefits from the federal government, and reduce noise pollution. These benefits make it apparent as to why the government wants to mandate electric vehicles by the year 2035 as the world would see cleaner energy and positevely reduce climate change. Although electric vehicles are currently expensive, as they become mandated and more popular, costs will decrease, they will become more practical with more chargers, and make a greater change on the environment.

Proposal:
The average amount of rainy days and precipitation in New York City rounds out to about 121 days and 46.6 inches annually. Therefore, there’s a 33% chance of experiencing wet socks on any given day due to rain or large puddles. Given that most shoes are made of fabric, it’s easy to soak them to the point where your feet become wet. A typical day for people may involve going to school or work, thus necessitating staying outside for extended periods. This can render the average person very uncomfortable if their socks are wet. With this problem in mind, we aim to design and create a reusable, non-electronic warming shoe insert that can dry socks and shoes from the inside. While there are a few soles on the market designed to warm wet socks, they all require recharging. Our design aims to eliminate this extra step and create a product that can be used indefinitely without relying on technology. We will model our product after chemical hand warmers. The sole will be flexible and comfortable when inserted, requiring the user only to snap a piece of metal to activate the heat. Chemical hand warmers function by containing a supersaturated sodium acetate solution within a piece of plastic, along with a flexible metal sheet. When the metal is snapped, it crystallizes the solution, releasing heat. By creating a sole, users will not need to buy new shoes, and the product will be compact enough for easy transportation, usable in unforeseen circumstances.
